Services

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has contracted with eighteen towns within the county to provide the housing and care of stray, abandoned and lost dogs. The Shelter’s Director and her assistant are the only two paid positions, with all the day to day care of the dogs done by a corps of volunteers. These dedicated volunteers are why the Franklin County Regional Shelter is such a success. Expenses are met through donations and fundraising.

What our Shelter offers:

• Animal Control Officers and Police Officers have 24 hour access to bring dogs to our Shelter

• All dogs who arrive are cared for by the Shelter volunteers

• Dogs who are owned are returned to their rightful owners after they are vaccinated against rabies and licensed with their town

• All adoptable dogs are vet checked and spay or neutered, micro-chipped and have started basic obedience training

• We have a fostering program for dogs that require more TLC

• We are involved with the Franklin County Link Coalition-  for animals in danger such as domestic violence

• We also work with the MSPCA  and our contracted towns for dog emergencies and cruelty cases 

• Volunteers receive dog handling skill training and can attend beginner obedience courses

• CPR First Aid Training is offered to all volunteers by the Sheriff’s Office
